How to Research a Company

Everyone is on Google, so find out what comes up when you Google the company; scroll through the pictures posted by the company, customers, clients, employees and check out their Google rating.

This point leads onto the next one, their website…

Click on their website and give it a thorough read; About, News, Team, Blog and anything else that will give you an insight into what the company stands for and does in the marketing place.

Social Media

After you’ve found out the facts, it’s time to check out what their social media presence is like. Look at how often they post (for relevance), the type of content they post (work events, days in the office, celebrations), what the feel for the company is (formal, casual, fun, quirky). Although social media is a place where people put their best pictures, companies often show a more authentic side, which is why it’s a great way to find out what it would be like to work there.

Employees (past & present)

If you know anyone who has or does work there, reach out to them, even if it’s a friend of a friend, inside opinions are always beneficial. Also remember everyone will have their own opinion and experience, so consider that when receiving feedback about working at the company.

Reviews (Google/Trustpilot/Yelp)

Reviews aren’t only for customers and clients’, it’s also a great way to find out what the business is like to work with and for. Read through a few of them and use this to also build your perception and get insight into the company.

Of course, there’s nothing like going into the office, having an interview and meeting the people who work there in person, but having insight about the company can only benefit you during the interview process. It will give you confidence when talking about what you can bring to the company, specifically. It will also leave a great impression on your interviewer if you come across as aware and interested in the company.
