Artificial Intelligence in the Workforce: Are Our Jobs at Risk?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) integrates into almost every aspect of modern life, with more companies using the technology to make informed decisions.

From recruitment to staff training, AI has a role to play in almost every process within your workplace. However, as it becomes more prevalent in different industries, many are wondering whether their jobs are at risk.

What is Artificial Intelligence?

AI is software that “mimics and generates human behaviours”. There are four different types of artificial intelligence, including reactive machines, limited memory, theory of mind and self-aware.

With the ability to access AI through most modern phones and household appliances, it’s evident that the technology is developing rapidly. However, as AI continues to evolve, so does the fear that it can displace humans.

Will Artificial Intelligence Take My Job?

While AI can replace some job roles, it is reassuring to know that the chance of AI replacing humans is not likely. Robotics, while technologically advanced, cannot adopt the critical attributes of real-life people.

Most industries need human workers. Careers such as psychologists, caregivers and those who work in human resources cannot be replaced by technology. Not only do these industries require humans to operate, but they provide a personalised service which is unique to humankind.

However, the acceleration of AI technology means that programmes and software can be used to enhance the jobs which humans currently complete. For example, educators could benefit from the implementation of AI with software to help analyse students’ progress and competence.
